The rationale of the summer school in hospital operations management

The program - thanks to the collaboration of important teaching hospitals, universities and research centers from different European Countries - aims to illustrate logistical, organizational and technological solutions and innovations to improve hospital operations.

Currently healthcare production processes are exposed to two different types of challenges.

First, operations managers are asked to manage more efficiently production assets to face the current problems of access due to the delays caused by the recent COVID-19 pandemic.

Secondly, healthcare operations need to be redesigned to better support value creation in the perspective of patients’ care considering some critical trends, particularly: (i) chronic diseases; (ii) aging of the population and (iv) one health approach with the need to integrate healthcare with social care.

In this context technology introduces for sure new scenarios and opportunities; we are talking here about big data and artificial intelligence, telemedicine, virtual hospital and automatization.

This summer school course tries to understand how innovations in patient flow logistics and supply chain can create value contributing, eventually, to make our healthcare systems more sustainable.
