Giuseppe Arbia is full professor of Economic Statistics at the Faculty of Economics, Rome office. Graduated in Statistics at La Sapienza University of Rome with honors, he received his PhD from the University of Cambridge (UK). He was Associate Professor of Statistics at the University of Trento, Extraordinary Professor of Economic Statistics at the University of Padua, Full Professor of Statistics at the "G. d'Annunzio" University of Pescara as well as Visiting Professor of various universities including the University of California at Santa Barbara (UCSB), the University of Cambridge (UK), the University of Texas at Dallas, the Federal do Ceara University in Fortaleza (BR), the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champain , New York University, the Université Panthéon Assas, Paris II, the University of Jönköping, the University of Stellenbosch , the Higher School of Economics in Moscow and the universities of Tohoku, Sendai and Tsukuba in Japan. In 2014 he was appointed Research Visiting Professor at the College of William & Mary in Williamsburg, Virginia.

His research is devoted to Spatial Statistics and Spatial Econometrics, having published on the subject 4 books (published by Palgrave-Macmillan, Kluwer, Springer-Verlag and CEDAM) 8 book chapters and about 200 articles 58 of which listed on ISI Thompson journal citation report and with Impact Factor (13 in the last 5 years; average Impact Factor = 1.7. Hirsch Index as of October 2020 = 31) and 35 of which in Class A journals (ANVUR).

He is the founder and Editor-in-Chief of the "Journal of Spatial Econometrics", published by Springer-Verlag, as well as a member of the editorial board of the journals "Empirical Economics" and "Letters in Spatial and Resource Sciences". He is director of the book series "Spatial Econometrics and Spatial Statistics" published by Elsevier.

He is the founder and Chairman of the Spatial Econometrics Association since 2006 and a member of scientific societies: the Italian Statistical Society, Regional Science Association International Statistical Institute and the American Statistical Association .

He is Director of the Spatial Econometrics Advanced Institute.

At the "G. d'Annunzio" University of Pescara he was Director of the Department of Business and Statistics (2003-2006), President of the BA Course in "Environmental Economics" (1999-2004), Member of the Evaluation Unit of University (2000-2003) member of the Administrative Board (2006-2009) and Coordinator of various doctoral programs in various periods from 2004 to 2005 and from 2009 to 2011.

He has also published a collection of short novels and 2 volumes of theatre plays. He wrote adaptations and staged, as an actor and director, several theatrical works including "La bottega dell'orefice" by Saint Karol Wojtyła.
